Mother’s Day Father Day Gift Group (MDFDGG)

The Mother’s Day Father’s Day Gift Group (MDFDGG) is a subcommittee of the P&C run by parents of TWPS students. Our main purpose is to run 2 events throughout the year, a Mother’s Day stall in May and a Father’s Day breakfast in September. We aim to raise a profit for the school but both these events have been running for many years and have now become a well-loved tradition for students and parents in their own right. Any profit raised from these events goes back to the school.

Mother’s Day Stall

The Mother’s Day Stall is held each year on the Thursday before Mother’s Day during school hours and set up in the school hall. Over the course of the day all students will have an opportunity to visit the stall to purchase gifts which are then gift wrapped for them to take home. In 2017 we had over 550 students attend the stall throughout the day.

In the lead up to the stall day, the MDFDGG research, source, select and purchase gifts, these are then individually priced and some repackaged. All gifts are photographed and we produce a catalogue which is available to view online.  We also have a display case set up in the library for students and parents to get an idea of what’s gifts are available. We set up the day before and on stall day we have several tables set up with gifts attended by volunteers who help children select gifts, receipt money and help with gift-wrapping. Some parents help for the whole day, some come for an hour. It’s a fun day and we provide morning tea, lunch and tea/coffee.

Father’s Day Breakfast

Each year on the Friday before Father’s Day we hold a Father’s Day breakfast in the school hall before school. In 2017 we served 450 students and parents over 2 sessions. We offered bacon and egg brioche buns, danishes, assorted fruit, juice, coffee, tea and hot chocolate. The breakfast is run by the MDFDGG with the much needed help of many other volunteers on the day. Lots of organising and logistics are sorted out in the lead up to breakfast, organising Flexischools for tickets, working out catering, sourcing equipment, decorations and food. We also hold a small gift stall during breakfast for students wishing to purchase a gift.

In the lead up to these 2 events we meet up once a week at school, currently Friday from 9am in the hall kitchen (usually mentioned in the Wednesday Weekly). We don’t meet up in Term 4 and we have a break in June/July. Most of us are new to the committee from 2017. Children are welcome to come along, we are a flexible friendly group and we would love to have some more parents join in 2018. Even if you cannot commit to joining a committee we are always very appreciative of help on the day of our events and it’s a great way to meet other parents at school.
